When the Bible speaks of "talents", it refers to a huge unit of weight in silver or gold.

In antiquity, the talent was a large unit of weight (tens of kilograms) of silver or gold. It was a considerable fortune — one talent was worth many years of an ordinary person's labor.

From money to "talent"

From the biblical parable of the talents — in which servants must multiply the money they receive — derives the modern meaning of "talent": a gift you are bound to use and grow.
