After the disasters of the 1923 inflation and the war, Germany introduced the German mark (Deutsche Mark) in 1948. It became one of the strongest, most respected currencies in the world.

A symbol of discipline

Germans, scarred by past hyperinflation, kept the mark extremely stable. They cherished it so much that giving it up for the euro in 2002 was an emotional moment for many.
