The name "forint" comes from the gold florin of Florence, a sign of the desire for stability. It was introduced in 1946, precisely to stop the worst hyperinflation in history.

Rebirth from zeros

The switch from pengő to forint meant erasing an astronomical number of zeros. It worked: the forint brought normal prices again. Proof that a new, credible currency can reset an economy.
